Just ask him about it; discuss your concerns as they arise. A 30 second chat will probably eradicate your concerns.
Looking for friends and pen-pals does not sound problematic to me. Some people like having many online acquaintances; it is a hobby for them. If his profiles indicated that he was looking for casual encounters or long-term relationships I would then have grounds for concern.
I meet very few people through dating sites. I pay little attention to my profiles and the maintenance of those profiles on the dating sites even now while I am single. If I were dating someone then I would pay even less attention to maintaining those profiles.
So if you mention it to him then he may feel inclined to update his profiles. Otherwise he will probably do nothing with those profiles because he has no motivation to take the time to update/discontinue those profiles.
